12 Step Program

Path to Recovery

When alcoholics and addicts are actively drinking and drugging, they have spent years doing damage to themselves physically, mentally and emotionally, oftentimes destroying relationships with family members and friends, engaging in behaviors that are harmful to themselves and others, getting into trouble financially and legally, and many other actions that have caused harm in one way or another.

12-palms-rehab-treatment-12-stepsAddiction treatment involves a variety of time-tested treatment programs geared towards steering alcoholics and addicts along a path of recovery, and while a number of great substance abuse rehabilitation centers offer quality treatment options, 12 Palms Recovery Center in Jensen Beach, Florida firmly believes that alcohol rehabilitation and drug treatment must include a 12 Step program.

12 Palms Recovery Center drug treatment options revolve around the 12 Step program first introduced in the book Alcoholics Anonymous, written in 1939 by AA co-founders Bill W. and Dr. Bob. The 12 Step Program calls for a plan of action, in which alcoholics and addicts admit their powerlessness over their addiction, make decisions to allow a power greater than themselves to help them with their addiction, take steps to admit their faults and shortcomings, make amends to people they have harmed by their actions during their active addiction, and then maintaining their daily sobriety with plans of action.

The first three steps of the 12 Steps are considered the building blocks, or the foundation. The first step has already been carried out by most clients at 12 Palms Recovery Center—admitting their powerlessness over drugs and alcohol, and that their lives have become unmanageable. The second step requires that clients come to realize that only a power greater than themselves can restore them to sanity. Once they have made that realization, they can then consider the third step, which asks them to make a decision to turn their will and their lives over to that power.

Once that foundation within the first three steps has been laid, each client at 12 Palms Recovery Center can then set start building on their foundation. Steps 4 through 9 are set up for each alcoholic and addict to take actions to repair the harm they caused while actively drinking and drugging.

12-palms-rehab-treatment-center-12-stepsSteps 10 through 12 are considered the maintenance steps in the 12 Step program, a way in which recovering addicts and alcoholics can take regular inventories of their actions and behaviors and take steps to correct those behaviors, and to use what they have learned to help other struggling addicts and alcoholics.

While many addiction treatment centers preach the 12 Step program from a podium and instruct clients it’s important to work the 12 Steps, 12 Palms Recovery Center puts the 12 Step program into action for each client right away as part of their overall drug treatment and alcohol rehabilitation program. While each client’s addiction is unique, the 12 Step program is designed to help each alcoholic and addict no matter what their circumstances and addiction may be.

Substance abuse rehabilitation centers across the country also utilize a 12 Step program in their suite of addiction treatment options, but at 12 Palms Recovery Center, each client is actively encouraged to start implementing the 12 Steps into their daily lives right away. Clients are encouraged to attend outside AA meetings, where they can find a sponsor who has been through the 12 Steps and can help guide them along the way.

In using the 12 Step program along with other time-tested addiction treatment options, such as group counseling, one-on-one therapy sessions, holistic treatment options and treatment for dual diagnosis, 12 Palms Recovery Center offers a suite of drug treatment and alcohol rehabilitation programs that encourages each client to take an active role in their recovery, and the 12 Step program acts as a model of living that they can use each and every day during their life in sobriety.
